Get ready, ShackBurger fans.

Downtown’s much-anticipated Shake Shack opened this Wednesday in Battery Park City, the popular chain announced on Tuesday.

“We’re excited to have a location in this neighborhood,” said Jon Vandergrift, director of New York operations for Shake Shack, as workers put the finishing touches on the restaurant Tuesday morning. “It’s an up-and-coming area — we’re excited to be part of the redevelopment.”

The Battery Park City outpost, on Murray Street, features all the traditional menu items that made Shake Shack famous, including burgers dripping with the house-made ShackSauce, but it also offers three special “concretes,” or frozen custards, that can’t be found anywhere else.

The “Wall-nut Street” contains vanilla custard, cookie dough, walnuts and cherries; the “Lower West Side” has chocolate custard, malted marshmallow and cocoa nibs; and the “Downtown Butter Brown” serves up vanilla custard mixed with hazelnut brown butter streusel and seasonal fruit.

Giant Restaurant and Oyster Bar Coming to BPC’s Pier A

NY Eater
by Amanda Kludt

Harry and Peter Poulakakos, the owners of practically every restaurant and chain in FiDi and Battery Park City—including Financier Patisserie, Adrienne’s Pizzabar, Harry’s Italian, and Ulysses—have signed a deal with the city to open a giant restaurant and entertainment complex on the renovated and restored Pier A, located between Battery Park and Battery Park City. The complex will hold a casual restaurant, oyster bar, coffee shop, and visitors center on the first floor and a fine dining restaurant and event space on the second floor.

The city awarded the Battery Park City Authority $30 million back in 2008 to restore the crumbling 125 year-old Lower Manhattan landmark, and when completed, it will also include enhanced waterfront access, 30,000 square feet of public plaza space and a 12,500-square-foot public promenade.

Well, it looks like BPC isn’t the only one getting the famous burger joint soon. In 2011 Shake Shack will hit the Dupont Circle district in Washington DC. The DC location will be only the second Shake Shack location outside of New York City as Miami Beach location opened its doors in June. You can read the full story here.
