West Thames Park was picked by Downtown Express as one of the best blacktops in the city siting, “this recently opened Battery Park City facility offers courts that are both beautiful and strangely designed.” The two half court basketball facilities with the uncommon multicolor paint choices seem only to attract youngsters in the area. The two courts have different height nets encouraging the shorter-net court to fill up with elementary age children by early afternoon and overflowing to the surrounding jungle gym. We are excited that our blacktop was picked as one of the best in the city. You can read about the other wining blacktops here

Battery Park made it on MSNBC’s (written by ShermansTravel) list of 10 Spots Every Kid Should See. While the destination on the list was our neighbor, Lady Liberty, Battery Park City was included as a great view point and something the youngsters would enjoy. Among other things in the area MSNBC mentioned that every kid is fascinated watching the giant cruise ships dock and sail out. You can view the whole list with photos here.

Thursday (July 8th) was the first day of the new Battery Park City greenmarket in World Financial Center plaza. The market attracted over 500 people and was seen as a success by many of the sellers. The market is host to 10 produce, wine and flower booths and the only complaint by customers is that it closes at 6 p.m.
We are excited for the new market in the area and hopefully in time they will have enough growth to stay open a little longer for those of us who get home a bit later. The downtown express has more on the story here.
